I often get asked, how and why did you start your photography business? I’ve probably explained it about 1,000+ times, so why not one more, right? I graduated from the University of Iowa with dual degrees in Business Administration and Studio Art with an emphasis in Photography. Right out of college, I moved to Chicago (insert now husband lived here and wanted to be closer to him). My first job right out of college was a a Recruiter/Marketing Coordinator for a headhunting firm downtown Chicago. I worked in this industry for 6 years, and honestly loved recruiting, but there was always this thought in the back of my mind that I couldn’t seem to let go of. Photography was tugging at my heartstrings. Here I was in the business world, loving it, but I knew there was something that I was meant to love…MORE.
In the summer of 2013, I started doing photography “on the side”. I started with family and friend, built a website and facebook page. I took sessions in the evenings after work, and on the weekends. By the end of 2013, I was determined to do it full-time. Towards the end of 2014, I left my position downtown and nose-dived head first into this business. The past five years have been such a wonderful journey and I’ve met so many amazing families along the way.
Upon meeting the Lewis family, I immediately knew that these were my kind of people. I actually stopped myself several times in the shoot to thank god that I have clients like them. They are warm, down to earth, friendly, easy-going, funny…beautiful people inside and out. I instantly felt like this momma was my “friend”…and I abolsutely loved working with them and watching their personalities come to life. Their photographs just ooze love. All in all, this session, in a nutshell was WHY I left my corporate job 5+ years ago. I truly have the best job on the planet, thanks to beautiful people like them. Now, enjoy the photos ♥️
